The Echoes Collective offers affordable, high quality photography and video productions services for individuals and organizations.

Our crew brings:

  1. Intensive photography and video training, and a track record of  creating polished, impactful work.

  2. Fresh, playful, and creative approaches.

  3. The ability to engage with a wide variety of subjects – especially youth and those with direct experience in criminal justice system.

For over 10 years Echoes has been creating documentaries and training materials on the impact of the criminal justice system on young people.  Early on, we started getting requests to create work for hire from people who saw the energy, creativity, and high production value of our work.

To date, the Echoes crew has produced for Carnegie HallLincoln CenterColumbia UniversityNew York UniversityThe Mayor’s Office of New YorkBrooklyn Public LibraryNew York State Office of Children and Family Services, and The Osborne Association, as well as filmed music videos, weddings, fashion shoots, training films, fundraising trailers, and live-streamed dozens of events.

Our producers go through intensive 2-year video production training, and immediately start getting experience on the dozen or so videos we produce each year. All productions use professional equipment and are created in production teams that include veteran media producers.

Case Studies

Case Study 1: The Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice

The Mayors office of Criminal Justice hired the Echoes crew to highlight the efforts around NYC to increase public safety without the addition of more police. The crew crisscrossed the city documenting violence interrupters, community justice centers, youth councils, mediation centers, as well as experiments in using architecture, design, and the re-allocation of police resources. The piece was used in public programming and panels, and can be seen online HERE

Case Study 2: Brooklyn Public Library

In 2017 the library was expanding their amazing Telestory program, which allows families to go to library locations across Brooklyn and video visit with individuals incarcerated on Rikers Island.  They hired the Echoes crew to create one video explaining the process to families, and a second video to train library staff on how to interact with and support families of the incarcerated. The youth producers conducted all the interviews– drawing out powerful personal stories from kids about what video visits meant in their lives. We also decided to give our graphics a personal touch by using original drawings and time-lapse animation.

Case Study 3: Your Permanency Hearing and You

One of our favorite work-for-hire project: the New York State Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children asked us to create a video aimed at teens in the foster care system, encouraging them to take ownership of their own cases and participate in their family court hearings.  True to our roots, rather than produce the piece ourselves, we ran a video workshops for the teens, and helped them produce interviews with each other.

Also, to explain the confusing and sometimes intimidating process of a permanency hearing, we created a stop-motion LEGO animation.
